One bright morning, Rabbit was boasting to the other animals in the forest. “I am the fastest animal here! No one can beat me in a race!” he said proudly.
Tortoise, who was slow but wise, smiled and said, “I may be slow, but I can still win a race against you.”
All the animals laughed. “How can a slow tortoise beat a fast rabbit?” they asked.
Rabbit laughed too. “Alright, let’s race tomorrow!” he said.
The next day, all the animals gathered to watch. The race began! Rabbit ran very fast and soon left Tortoise far behind. Seeing this, Rabbit thought, “Tortoise is too slow. I have plenty of time to rest.” So, he lay under a tree and fell asleep.
Meanwhile, Tortoise kept moving slowly but steadily, never stopping. Step by step, he got closer to the finish line.
When Rabbit woke up, he saw Tortoise almost at the finish line! He ran as fast as he could, but it was too late—Tortoise had already won the race!
All the animals cheered. Rabbit felt ashamed. Tortoise smiled and said, “Slow and steady wins the race.”
